Afraid to Fail: Fear is the Enemy of Success

Hello Monday … we meet again. This marks the beginning of a new series on this blog. To kick-start the week, I will be sharing a thought of the day on Mondays aimed to energize, motivate and help spur us on to success. Today let’s talk about the enemy of success: fear. Fear is the enemy of success

When you think of the things that hold you back, what do they look like?

  • Other people?
  • Circumstances?
  • Resources?
  • Timing?
  • Yourself?

Q: What is it about each of those things that keeps you from moving forward?

Is it fear? Chances are that regardless of the ‘things’ holding you back, it can be traced to fear. Fear of the unknown, the opinion of others, failure, fear of losing control, fear of loss or fear of making the wrong decision.

I think the idea of ‘healthy fear’ isn’t wrong, it’s just not how I would put it. I don’t want to be afraid of anything. Calculating and planning are important but there comes a time when you just need to let go, take a deep breath and jump into the unknown.

It’s scary to be surrounded by uncertainty. We cannot deny that. However, what can you really control? How much control do you actually have in this life? Things can change in a millisecond and, unfortunately, we can’t do a thing about it.

It’s time to face our fears. Your kids, your business, your spouse, your future … it’s all a risk on some level. Odds are, you’ve done riskier things then you are about to do. Any major life decision, or even smaller decisions, involve considerable risk. That’s just the way it is.

FACT: Failure can lead to unexpected success.

FACT: We tend to make things seem scarier than then really are.

Don’t let fear control you. Don’t let it dim your light or dampen your future.

Perhaps your greatest success is waiting for you just on the other side of fear.

Your moment is now.

So, what are you waiting for?
