What’s Hot Right Now: AI Content Now Carries a Signature
In August, Anthropic began watermarking Claude’s text output globally, following the EU transparency code it signed in July. The model works by leaving a subtle pattern within the text that readers can’t detect to signal that AI was used somewhere within the content.
We broke down the most common questions coming off of this news in the first installment of our AI Minute, a new series translating AI developments into what brand teams + leaders need to know about them. (Spoiler: It’s longer than a minute, but the actionable brief is worth the watch).

Industry News: Three Things That Turn an Opening Into a Line Out the Door

For decades, Block’s Bagels was the bagel shop on the east side of Columbus. When the founder passed away, the recipe and local legacy could have gone with him. Instead, the Block family gave TJ Burkheart their blessing to use the original recipe, in the same space under a new name, and Anything Bagel opened in August.
With our grand opening support, the brand saw:
- 30+ media opportunities around the opening, including Columbus Business First, Axios Columbus and a live Good Day Columbus segment
- More than 1,000 people served on opening day
- Seven days of inventory sold in three
Three things that made the opening a success:
- A soft opening and VIP event: Select influential guests had an early look at the shop to share the experience ahead of opening day. The staff also then had an opportunity to work out any kinks before the expected rush.
- A story beyond the opening: Newsrooms have limited staff, and shop opening announcements have plenty of competition for attention. A preserved recipe, the founding family’s blessing and the revival of a local favorite gave the media a reason to listen.
- An audience beyond the news cycle: Not every future customer reads the local business page. An influencer partnership put the shop in front of neighborhood audiences on the platforms they’re scrolling daily, timed + crafted to encourage foot traffic.
News We’re Noting:
- Instagram is implementing a stricter label on AI influencers. The platform replaced its optional “AI creator” tag with a mandatory “AI-generated profile” label for accounts built around synthetic personas. Apply it and reach is unaffected. Skip it and distribution gets cut. The label covers synthetic identity, not AI assistance, so editing a photo or drafting a caption does not trigger it.
- Restaurant traffic was negative in six of the first seven months of 2026 while retail visits stayed positive, according to Placer.ai data presented by R.J. Hottovy. Convenience stores took a larger share of the 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. window, out-visiting QSR brands in their core dayparts. Could these be clues for 2027?
- Food safety is being framed as a supply chain issue. Ecolab’s Lisa Robinson argues that prevention has to be layered across suppliers, handling and sanitation long before a product reaches the line. Her recommendation is to stress-test traceability and recall processes before you need them. The same applies to crisis communications plans.
