The world is changing, and social media has been changing with it. Team Belle is always on the lookout for social updates that can help to improve content. If you read the blog regularly, you know that we share social media updates and tips on a regular basis. It’s important for us to know where and how consumers are finding news and looking for products. See our list of recent social media updates, and make sure you’re on the ball.

5 Social Media Updates

1. Facebook users now has 4 billion videos per day

Business Insider recently shared an update that Facebook’s video use is growing at an explosive rate. From January 2015 to April, the social network’s video views grew by 1 billion.

This update is proof that the popularity of Facebook video has not diminished. If your client, or own company is already creating video content, it is worth your while to add the finished product to Facebook.

2. Meerkat Now Has Facebook Support

The Verge recently shared news that everyone’s favorite live-streaming app now supports Facebook. Meerkat’s video alerts can be sent to Facebook, and those new to Meerkat can use their account to login.

Also thanks to the recent update, users can now find friends within their address book, making the platform even easier to navigate. Live-streaming is here to stay, and something to consider if you are hosting a conference or large event in the future!

3. Send Direct Messages… to Anyone

Great news PR pros! Twitter has opened the gates to direct messaging, and now users can send messages to anyone (who has selected the option in their privacy settings), whether or not they are following eachother.

This is a good update for those of us looking for more ways to reach specific media outlets and reporters. If you are a company trying to connect with consumers on a more personal level, this is also a plus! Whether you are hosting a giveaway, receiving feedback or just being friendly on Twitter, you can now suggest that your fans send a direct message.

4. Mobile is the Winner

When is the last time you read a news article from your phone or tablet? Do you have an app that updates you on the latest financial, national or local news? A large number of Americans are doing the same thing.

According to Pew Research Center, 39 of the top 50 digital news sites have more traffic coming in from mobile devices than desktops. Podcasts are also growing in popularity, with many listening from mobile applications. The takeaway- if you are creating online content, it’s now more important than ever to ensure that posts and videos are mobile friendly.  To learn more about trends in news, see the full report here.

Stay Social!

Every business doesn’t have to be on every platform, but make sure the social tools that you do use stay up-to-date. Be sure to take advantage of social updates as they become available to keep your fans interactive and excited about your brand.
