Remember what we declared at the beginning of this year? That’s right, 2014 is the year to THRIVE. One of my goals for 2014, was to secure my first official speaking engagement. So far, that goal has blown up beyond my expectations! I was hopeful to secure one opportunity when, as of this post, I have secured three! First, an amazing webinar with Cision on PR Trends, which blew my mind with more than 600 registrants (I was a bit stressed preparing for that one.) Followed a month later by a last-minute opportunity to be part of two entrepreneurship panels for Ohio State’s PRSSA conference, and now I’ve been officially invited to contribute to the Ohio Growth Summit June 4th-5th, 2014 (session details at the bottom of this post)!
I’m speechless. (I guess I should probably work on that since I need to speak at the event, huh?) I’m so filled with gratitude and I’m honored. What’s exceptionally cool about this upcoming opportunity, is that the Ohio Growth Summit was THE conference that helped me determine whether to continue solo as a consultant or dive in and build something bigger than myself. The keynote with Heather Whaling in particular helped confirm this decision for me …
Don’t Waste Your Money.
Who hasn’t spent precious dollars on a conference only to walk away thinking more about why you attended than what you learned? That has, unfortunately, happened to me more than once. One of the things that’s great about this conference is that the keynote speakers and breakout sessions are actually valuable.
Michael Bowers and his team do and EXCEPTIONAL job bringing in speakers (Chris Brogan, anyone?) with content that’s practical, applicable, smart and truly beneficial for entrepreneurs. Check out the event agenda to see what I mean. Then, hurry and register (it’s only $175 for BOTH days) before space fills up …
Meet and Hangout with Our Team!
Not that you really need more convincing but because this is the 10th anniversary of OGS, the conference has grown from one to TWO days of amazingness. That, of course, means more great content, networking and even an epic Happy Hour co-hosted by Jess Ostroff and Amy Schmittauer.
PLUS: You will get to meet our team in-person! (All except Tori who will be touring in Thailand. Sad face.) We’ll be attending the entire event, chilling at happy hour and we’re so excited to meet you IRL (in real life).
How to Bootstrap Your PR … Like a Boss.
Here’s the scoop on my breakout session …
“How To Bootstrap Your PR…Like A Boss” on June 4th, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Startup? Bootstrapped? Not everyone can have an angel-funded tech startup with a PR agency on retainer. If you’re stuck pitching yourself and you’re unsure of where to start or just want to brush up on your PR skills, this breakout is for you. In it, you’ll gain best practices and the insider-perspective you need to get media to cover your brand — without driving reporters nuts in the process.
Gain expert advice, tailored to your startup (through an in-session Q&A) and leave with a toolkit of sample pitches, media dos and don’ts and a step-by-step media outreach checklist.
- Learn what really matters to reporters before you approach them with your startup story or news.
- Decipher whether your “news” is actually newsworthy and learn which media outlets would be interested in covering it.
- Gain practical guidelines for crafting the perfect pitch to secure coverage for your brand.
- Ask questions tailored to your startup with an in-session Q&A.
- Take-home a PR toolkit complete with sample pitches, media dos and don’ts and a step-by-step media outreach checklist.
I hope we see you at #OGS14! I believe there’s a special promo-code I can pass along to you so if you’re interested in that, just email me.
P.S. How are your 2014 goals progressing?
