Media Training: How to Prepare for a Radio Interview

Last week we began a new video series on media training to offer tips and recommendations for how to prepare for different types of interviews and media opportunities. We kicked off the series with a video about prepping for a TV segment, and today we’re on to Part 2 in our series: how to successfully prepare for a radio interview. Last week we began a new video series on media training to offer tips and recommendations for how to prepare for different types of interviews and media opportunities. We kicked off the series with a video about prepping for a TV segment, and today we’re on to Part 2 in our series: how to successfully prepare for a radio interview.

How to Prepare for a Radio Interview

This video isn’t about securing a radio segment (but if you’re trying to figure out how to do that, click here.) No, at this point, we’re assuming that you’ve already got your interview opportunity lined up with a date and time set and you’re preparing to be interviewed. When it comes to radio, there are a few different scenarios for how your radio interview might take place:
  • In-studio (live or prerecorded)
  • Call-in (live or prerecorded)
  • LIVE at an event

In today’s video, I share tips for how to get ready for both types of radio interviews, as well as advice for during the interview. I’ll cover:

  • Questions to ask ahead of time
  • What to expect
  • Dos and Don’ts for speaking on the radio (e.g. DO smile while speaking and slow down; DON’T clear your throat if you can help it)

We hope this series will provide you with a few tips you can easily implement to make your next (or first!) radio interview that much better.

Is there any advice you would add to what we’ve shared? We love to hear your feedback, so feel free to comment below or connect with us on Twitter.
